过年期间，家家户户门口贴着春联，颜色喜庆，寓意吉祥，给中国春节增添了不少“年味”。
“对联”的英文是couplet（对句），这是一种非常古老的文体形式，在英文世界也有这样的概念：
Couplet的定义是 two lines of poetry of equal length one after the other（长度一样的两行句子），如果这两个句子还压着韵，则被称为rhyming couplets（押韵对句）来表示。看例子：莎士比亚在《仲夏夜之梦》（A Midsummer Night's Dream）写过的一个经典押韵对句：
"Love looks not with the eyes, but with the mind;And therefore is winged Cupid painted blind."
爱用的不是眼睛，而是心；所以爱神丘比特的眼睛总是蒙着的。
回到咱们的主题——“春联”，春联实际上是“春节的对联”，用英文来表达是：Spring Festival couplets。春联比一般的对联要求多一份过节的喜庆，比如：
上联：春风送春处处春色美
下联：喜鹊报喜家家喜事多
