What is the Emphatic Pattern

什么是强调句:

It was in the street that I met him yesterday.

强调,是一种基本语法,也是一种修辞方式。人们在日常交流中,有时为了加强语气或突出重要内容或增加感彩,就会用到强调。英语中表强调的方式以强调句型为主,也包括其他的一些强调结构。英语中有时为了需要,经常要强调句子中的某一成分,要用到一些强调句型。

强调句的基本结构:

It is/was + 被强调部分(主语、宾语或状语等) + that/who(当强调主语且主语指人)+句子的其余部分

知识点:连接词

一般说来,如果被强调部分是人时,用连词that或who;被强调的部分是宾语,指人时也可以用whom;如果被强调部分是物,只能用连词that。

如:It was John and Mike who/that saw Mary in the street last night.

It is Mary whom/who he often helps.

It was in the street that I met him yesterday.

强调句的基本结构:

It +is/was+被强调部分+that/who+从句

注意:

被强调部分: 主语/宾语/状语;

引导词:被强调部分指人/物用that,指人用who。

例句:

原句: I finished my homework last night .

Mary met an old beggar in the street yesterday.

(强调主语)

It was Mary who/that met an old beggar in the street yesterday.

(强调宾语)

It was an old beggar whom/that Mary met in the street yesterday.

(强调时间状语)

It was yesterday that Mary met an old beggar in the street.

(强调地点状语)

It was in the street that Mary met an old beggar yesterday.

not...until 的强调句:

强调含有not until的句子时,not 位于until从句前,主句谓语动词作相应变化,即it is(was)+not until从句+that +其它。

如:普通句:He didn't go to bed until/ till his wife came back.

强调句:It was not until his wife came back that he went to bed.

It was not until he had finished the work that he went home.

It was not until 12 o’clock last night that my brother came home.

not...until 的强调句:

He didn't go to bed until his father came back.

It was not until his father came back that he went to bed.

句型为: It is/was not until+被强调部分+that+ 其他部分

不可分开

注意:not until 不可分开;由于not已经前移,that 后的部分只能用肯定形式

He didn't realize his mistakes until he graduated from high school.

It was not until he graduated from high school that he realized his mistakes.

强调句的疑问句:

强调一般疑问句中的某一成分时,要在主句中用一般疑问句的顺序。

Was/ Is it + 被强调部分 + that/ who

Was it you that/who broke the window

强调特殊疑问句中的疑问词,其结构模式是:“疑问词+ is/was + it +that...”。它同感叹句的强调模式极其相似,首先将疑问句开头的部分作为强调部分,套入强调结构,然后再将其变为疑问句。

Where were you born → Where was it that you were born

What did you want to see → What was it that y ou wanted to see

How many people are being trained for the important work →

How many people is it that are being trained for the important work

感叹句的强调结构:

既要体现强调句型的形式特征,又要体现感叹句的自然语序。

How happy he looks! → How happy it is that he looks!

What a clever boy he is! → What a clever boy it is that he is!

强调句中的主谓一致:

被强调的成分为原句的主语时,that/who之后的谓语动词应与被强调的名词或代词在人称和数方面保持一致关系,从而选用恰当的动词形式。

如:It is you who/that are wrong.

It is I who/that am answering the question.

强调句中的主谓一致:

It is/ was not…but…that… 不是……而是……

that后的动词与but后的名词或代词保持一致

It is/ was…rather than…that… 是……而不是

that后的动词与rather than前面的名词或代词保持一致

eg. It was not luck but difficulties that make him success.

eg. Personally,I think it is the sales manager ,rather than the sales girls, who is to blame.

强调句中的主谓一致:

注意1:但是如果被强调的部分是人称代词,按理应用人称代词主格形式,但在口语或非正式文体中也可以用其宾格形式,此时that/who的谓语动词要用单数第三人称形式is或was。

如:It is me/I who is being asked the favor.

注意2:在It is/was..., not...that...句型中,其谓语动词应与肯定部分的词保持一致关系。

如:It is my brother, not I that studies in that school.

It is you, not your sister that are in charge o f the company.

强调句与主语从句的区别:

It is / was + 形容词 / 分词 / + that从句,是主语从句,若删去It is / was...that...,则原句不成立,It 为形式主语,真正主语为that后跟部分;

强调句型若删去“It is / was...that / who...”,原句结构与语意均完整,译成中文时,常可加上“正是……”“就是……”之类字眼。

强调句与主语从句的区别:

It is / was + 形容词 / 分词 / + that从句,是主语从句,若删去It is / was...that...,则原句不成立,It 为形式主语,真正主语为that后跟部分;

强调句型若删去“It is / was...that / who...”,原句结构与语意均完整,译成中文时,常可加上“正是……”“就是……”之类字眼。

(主语从句) 他真的很诚实。

It is known to all that China is a country with a long history.

(主语从句)众所周知,中国是一个历史悠久的国家。

It was here that he fell off his bicycle.

(强调句)这正是他从自行车上摔下来的地方。

强调句型与状语从句的区别:

It was at 7:00 that I arrived.

It was 7:00 when I arrived.

It was two years ago that I began to learn drawing

It is(has been) two years since I began to learn drawing

It was two years before they came to see us.

It was two years later that they came to see us.

It won’t be long before we graduate from the school.

It will be two years before we graduate from this university.

强调句型与状语从句的区别:

It was at 7:00 that I arrived.

(强调句型,强调时间状语at 7:00) 正是在7:00时,我到了。

It was 7:00 when I arrived.

(时间状语从句,在7:00前无介词at) 当我到达时, 时间是7:00。

It was two years ago that I began to learn drawing.

(强调句型,前后时态一致) 正是在两年前我开始学习绘画。

It is(has been) two years since I began to learn drawing.

(since引导的时间状语从句,前后时态不一致) 自从我学习绘画以来已经有两年了。

强调句型与状语从句的区别:

It was two years before they came to see us.

(时间状语从句) 过了两年后他们才来看我们。

It was two years later that they came to see us.

(强调句型) 正是两年后他们才来看我们的。

It won’t be long before we graduate from the school.

(时间状语从句) 不久我就将毕业了。

It will be two years before we graduate from this university.

(时间状语从句) 再过两年我们就将大学毕业了。

强调时间或地点时,有介词于其前,则连接词用that,无介词,则连接词用when(时间)或where(地点)

【特殊情况】有些表时间、地点的词汇或短语,本身不需要在其前面加介词,连接词只能用that

【特别提醒】

①it is/was 与其余部分的时态一致,is/was 的数不受被强调部分单复数的影响,只有 is/was 的形式;

②被强调部分,作主语的代词用主格,作宾语的代词用宾格

He helped me yesterday.

eg. It was he that helped me yesterday.

eg. It was me that he helped yesterday.

③如果被强调的成分有同位语,同位语也要提前

【补充】

用“do/does/did+动词原形”进行强调

这种强调句型只有一般现在时和一般过去时两种,只对肯定的谓语动词进行强调,没有疑问和否定形式。Do 在句中要重读,根据时态提炼出 do 的各种形式, 被提炼的动词变成动词原形。

*Do be careful next time, please. 下次请务必小心。

*She did tell me about her address, but I forget all about it. 她确实告诉过我她的地址,但我全忘了。(本来是 told,强调动词,我们提炼出 did,然后用 tell 的原形。)

*She does come from a European country.她的确来自欧洲某个国家。(本来是 comes, 应为强调动词,我们提炼出 does, 然后用 come 的原形。)

【补充】

用词或词组very, only, well, a lot, on earth等来表示强调。

e.g. That’s the very book we read last year.

Tom is the only person here that can speak English and Chinese.

What on earth do you want to say

反复使用同一个词来表示强调。

e.g. I will never, never forget you.

He thought and thought, and suddenly he got a good idea.

用倒装句来表示强调。

e.g. That she is a good girl I know.

This the students can undersatand.

【补充】

用感叹句来表示强调。

eg. How interesting the book it is!

What a beautiful dress it is!

用双重否定来表示强调。

eg. Taking part-time jobs is never without drawbacks.

用比较状语从句来表示强调。

eg. Nothing is more imperative than to learn from the past.
